Art Activity Schedule – Summer 2024
These are the fantastic FREE art activities on offer this summer:
- Week 1 – Shadow Puppets and 3d Modelling in plasticine
- Week 2 – Drumming, Textiles and painting, and Singing
- Week 3 – Puppet making and Mask making
The following details apply to all the sessions:
- Each day will start at 10.00am and finish at 3.00pm.
- Participants will need to bring a packed lunch, plenty of snacks and drinks to last them for the duration of each day.
- Participants are advised to wear old clothing they don’t mind getting messy in.
- Carers are responsible for dropping off/picking up their children/young people. Unfortunately, the Virtual School cannot fund or arrange transport.

⭐ Shadow Puppet Workshop
Monday 29 July
8-12 years old
❓ Learn about shadow puppetry and create your own shadow puppet to take home. Libby will introduce participants to the art of shadow puppetry, encourage your creativity through making your own shadow puppets, and will teach you how to manipulate your puppet and bring them to life! The day will culminate in a group shadow puppet performance.
⭐ 3D Modelling in plasticine
Tuesday 30 July
8-12 years old
❓ Create 3D models from plasticine to take home. This is a hands-on freestyle model making workshop where participants explore the limitless possibilities of plasticine. This workshop is designed to inspire imagination, encourage artistic expression and provide a platform for participants to create unique and personal models within a collaborative and supportive environment. This workshop aims to inspire a sense of accomplishment and joy in the creative process.

⭐ Drumming Workshop
Monday 5 August
8-14 years old

this year DAISI drumming specialist James Carr will lead an engaging and lively Samba drumming and rhythm workshop. This lively workshop will be full of fun and open to all. Explore a specific rhythm and learn how different drum and percussion parts fit together to create a multi layered rhythmic montage.
⭐ Textiles and Painting Workshop
Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 August
8-12 years old
❓ DAISI Artists Jess Carvill and James Hedge will lead participants on an exciting creative journey into the colourful world of textile design, paint and stenciling. Over the 2 days you will be introduced to a variety of activities, such as:
- Painting / stenciling / block printing: using the processes of stenciling, block printing and painting we will buildup rich layers of colour and image, creating animal-based action scenes like ‘tigers in the jungle’ and ‘birds in the forest’.
- Wet Felting: felt from wool is considered to be the oldest textile known to man. You will experience how to make your very own 3D felted cat. You will be guided through enjoyable soap and water processes that will bond the wool fibres into a permanent fabric.
- Tie-Dye: you will also be exploring a number of techniques in order to decorate and personalise your very own eco canvas bag. You will learn how to use Japanese Shibori tie-dye techniques, famous for its detailed designs and indigo blue colours.
All activities will be focused on an animal theme, and all artworks made can be taken home.
⭐ Singing Workshop
Thursday 8 August
8-12 years old
❓ New this year DAISI Musician Laura Loft will be leading a one day workshop in laid back lyric writing for 8-12year olds. Based upon the new musical book ‘Big Dreams: Imaginative Songs’. A laid back and chilled workshop exploring creative lyric writing aimed at sparking ideas, inspiring creativity and connecting with others in a calm space. With gentle musical games, singing, songwriting, performing your own songs/compositions and wellbeing activities.

14-18 years old
