Young Person’s Custody Offer

If you are expecting to go into custody then your PA will support you.

They will assist you to prepare before you go in to prison. This will include assisting with things that you can take with you, gathering names and contact details for people you want to keep in touch with.

When you go into custody your PA will send you an initial allowance of £20. This will enable you to make phone calls, for example.
After this you will receive an allowance of £20 a month.
Your PA will visit you within two weeks and then two monthly after that. They will keep in touch via phone calls, emails and letters.
The education and training personal advisor from your team will visit you to support you with your options in prison and when you leave.
Each prison has a care leaver lead. You will be asked if you are a care leaver and if so you will be referred to the care leaver lead. Care leavers can identify as vulnerable and be placed on the vulnerable wing rather than general population.
Your PA will ensure that prison can support you with your cultural and faith needs e.g. halal food, prayer mats.

Transition meetings will begin three months prior to your release date. These should include the young person, offender manager, probation officer, DCC housing officer, team manager, Employment Education and training PA and your own PA. Sometimes family attend if they are going to support you when you leave. This means that you will know where you are going to stay when you leave prison and the arrangements for this.
Any licence conditions
You will have a CV prepared for when you leave. You will be offered an appointment after your release to meet the employment education and training PA to support you with finding employment or training.
Your pathway plan will be completed for when you leave.
What is going to happen on the day you are released such as who is going to meet you and what you need to do on that day.

You will be met by your PA at the prison and they will support you to attend the appointments you need to and take you home.
You will receive £60 allowance for five weeks once you have signed on for universal credit.
If you are working then you will receive £60 a week until you are paid.
