Love our Children week – for our care experienced young people!

1 July 2025

We had a fantastic time celebrating Love Our Children Week 2025 last week!

The week ended with the celebration of achievement awards on Friday night, when we gathered at Exeter racecourse to celebrate all of our care experienced young people for all the achievements they have made within the last year.

There were also lots of fun activities, including free DJ lessons provided by Sound Communities. There was, of course, the essential chocolate fountain, and we even had free ice cream courtesy of Salcombe Dairy!

An incredible 521 young people received awards, with 200 of our award winners attending on the night and a further 200 carers and other guests also in attendance.

The evening was a great success and rounded off Love Our Children Week 2025, Devon County Council’s week-long celebration of our children in care and care leavers. There were lots of events and activities throughout the week, including a talk from Lads Like Us and a rounders match between staff and our young people (that finished an incredible 83-80 to the SUSU team!). There was also the launch of some key projects such as the Promise, a welcome pack for Young Asylum Seekers, and a new Children in Care assessment and workbook. All of these projects will fundamentally help improve practice and make sure that young people remain at the heart of everything we do.

A big well done to everyone who got an award. It was great to see lots of you there and to celebrate your achievements!
