Did you know you can apply to be a Poll Clerk, Presiding Officer, or a Verification and Count Assistant in the election coming up?

Polling Stations are typically open from 7.00 a.m. until 10.00 p.m. On polling day, you’ll be required to arrive at the polling station early to set up equipment in time for opening. You cannot leave the premises during polling hours, but with all of these roles, you will be given adequate breaks throughout. You need to be over 18 and entitled to work in the UK to apply to these roles.

 

Poll Clerk

Make sure that voters are able to vote in private, free from influence and in a calm atmosphere. make sure voters present their ID in private when requested, Ensure all voters are treated respectfully and fairly, and support disabled voters to use any special equipment.

 

Presiding Officer

Work with the Returning Officer, be responsible for the ballot in the polling station, ensure the poll and all ballot papers are delivered securely, to make sure all voters are treated respectfully and fairly, and to be responsible for the management of the Poll Clerks at the polling station.

 

Verification and Count Assistant

The role of the Verification and Count Assistant is not difficult, but you must work in a pressurized environment and the great care has to be taken to make sure that mistakes are not made.

You must be prepared to stay as long as it takes.  Usually the Verification takes place immediately after the close of poll, you will start working late into the evening and potentially into the early hours of the morning.
