The plan for mental health – April 2023 update

17 April 2023

Here’s the latest update on our Youth Voice Saturday work on mental health.  Thank you and well done to everyone who bravely shared their stories – your voices have made these changes possible!

What changes are being made?

  • Mental Health Support Teams are being introduced in 35 percent of Devon schools.
  • Devon County Council has committed to encouraging schools to include mental health training as part of their mandatory in-school training.
  • Devon is also committed to promoting meaningful and positive relationships as part of behaviour management.
  • A Devon directory for mental health support services is being compiled across organisations.
  • Young Devon has introduced wellbeing cafes and check ins for young people while they wait for support.
  • CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) has committed to improving communication while you wait and to making the process more streamlined, so that you can get the right support more quickly.
  • Young Devon and CAMHS are improving accessibility and training on neurodivergence. They are also exploring more options other than talking therapies.
