Read about all we got up to in our June SUSU Council meeting

6 June 2025

5 young people joined us online for our SUSU Council meeting on Tuesday! And huge thank you to Eloise for chairing this meeting so brilliantly!

We started our busy evening by finalising the list of expectations for SUSU Council! We also discussed which senior managers should join our future meetings, and have started work on creating a rota for them.

We then discussed ideas for a summer social, which will be taking place in August! A poll on the SUSU Council WhatsApp group will be going out next week to decide the details.

Next, we had a look at some forms made for children in care called the “My Life, My Say, My Future” Guides. These are being made as a friendly way for young people in care to share what’s going on in their life. We gave our feedback, and they will be launched during “Love our Children week” at the start of July.

We also had a few updates on the Language Matters project that we have been working on. This will be a video made with care experienced young people that helps workers to understand how their language has an impact.

We also talked about “Love our Children week” which is Devon County Council’s celebration of children in care and care leavers!

Finally, we gave some updates on Devon Youth Council’s Campaign (Places to Go, Things to Do). We mentioned that we were still finding out more about the topic and encouraged everyone to take part in the new survey which will help decide the campaign’s focus.

Our next SUSU Council meeting is taking place in Exeter on 8 July! If you’re interested in joining us, then make sure to get in touch at participation@devon.gov.uk !!
