What makes a good social worker?

Earlier this month we asked children in care aged 10-15 “What are the main ingredients for a good social worker?”

This was a great session, and we had a really interesting discussion. We also had Jo (Devon County Council’s Chief Officer for Children’s Services) on the call to hear from you all about how life has been – as well as hearing what the qualities and skills are that you think all social workers must have!

Overall, you told us that you want social workers to be people who understand your needs and views and who care sensitively about you and your wellbeing.

Following the event we have shared your thoughts with other managers in the Council. Our plan now is for this work to be used to update the job descriptions and adverts that Devon posts when they need to recruit more social workers.
