What is a Corporate Parent?

You may have heard people use the words Corporate Parent and wondered what they mean.  All staff who work for the local authority (like social workers, councillors, IRO’s and managers) are corporate parents to children in care and young people leaving care.  This means they should do everything they can for those children to achieve all that they can, be fit and healthy and be ready for adult life.

In 2017 the Government made a new law to tell Corporate Parents what they need to do for their children.  The law includes seven principles that all Corporate Parents need to work to.  You can read more about this here or ask your carer, social worker or PA to explain it to you.
