Involving our young people in training others: Participation in action          

On 28th November, after a bit of a break for our young trainers, it was good to see them back. They contributed to the Skills to Foster Training hosted by Devon County Council. As a result, we helped new foster parents learn more about how to become even better at caring.

Entitled “Moving In and Moving On” we think this session really helps new foster parents to understand the experiences of children and young adults who find themselves in the care of the local authority.

In front of about 20 people, 2 care leavers shared their personal stories. Then they gave a presentation, and played a game with carers. The game helped them to understand how moving into a strange new home can feel from a child or young person’s viewpoint.

People told us they had learned something new and that our volunteers had made a big impression on them. We look forward to delivering the next session in January.
