Enter Devon Champions for Change!
A new group has been set up by the SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) Improvement Programme.
They’re called Champions for Change. They’ve already started letting managers know what they need to know! This will help workers get better at what they do for young people living with special educational needs and disabilities in Devon.
Young people told the SEND team that their voices should be heard, not ignored. Then they invited leaders and decision makers to an event. That happened on 7th November 2018. People were able to find out more about how to #ListenHearUnderstand in their workplace or care setting.
Sophie Ellis, the participation team manager, who attended the event, said ‘This was an inspiring day where those of us working for and with children with special educational needs and disabilities were reminded to keep our focus on what children and young people tell and show us and to not just listen; but to act, change and prove it too! Brilliant day, amazing young people, great learning. It was a privilege.’
