Following on from our Mark Riddell meeting (see here for more details) staff were able to meet Mark in Tiverton later in the week at the #Care2Dream2Achieve conference. This aimed to explore how Children’s service staff, as corporate parents can meet the dreams and aspirations of young people.
Staff arrived from across Devon, including
- Social workers
- Mental health workers
- Independent Reviewing Officers
- Children in Care nurses
Everyone came together to hear influential speakers.
Zara, Sophie, Cllr McInnes and Daryl Freeman gave a warm and welcoming open to the day. After that, Mark took the stand and said we need to be” more parent than corporate”!
We got information from Devon Apprentices about how to involve more of our young people in the “family business”. @coramvoice led on the results of the Bright Spots survey in Devon. And we were reminded about the positive and negative impact the care system can have on a child’s life – from the brilliantly funny and moving talk given by @hackneychild AKA Dr Jenny Molloy
A series of workshops happened in the afternoon, including info about Pathway Planning and Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children.
@SusuDevon tweeted all day on #Care2Dream2Achieve. Why not find us on twitter and follow the threads? Or take a look at our scrapbook here for a flavour of the day as it unfolded on twitter.
A big thankyou to Zara, Sophie and all our guests for presenting such a fantastic day!
