Care Leavers’ Week 2021

National Care Leavers’ Week will be running from 25-31 October, and we’ve got lots of events lined up to celebrate it properly!

Below you will find our main event plus all the activities happening in Exeter, South and West, Mid and East and North. All of the events are open to all Devon Care Leavers (aged 16-25), regardless of which area you live in, although you will have to make your own travel arrangements. If you need support with transport costs, please speak to your PA.

The Main Event!

Laser Tag

📅 Tuesday 26 October

🕔 6-9pm

📍 Devon Activity Centre / Transport from Exeter

Hands up if you like laser tag 🙋 Well, you’re in luck! We’re inviting you and all Care Leavers from Devon to come and join us for a game of laser tag! We’re providing transport from Exeter, or you can make your own way there.


Exeter

Pizza Party

📅 Thursday 28 October

🕔 6-8pm

📍 On The Waterfront, Exeter


What’s the best way to celebrate National Care Leavers’ Week? With some free pizza – obviously! So, come and join us for a pizza party!


South and West

Care Leaver Meet Up

📅 Monday 25 October

🕔 2-5pm

📍 No Limits Cafe, Newton Abbot

In South and West, we’ll be kicking off the week with plenty of milkshakes and sweet treats at the No Limits Cafe! We’re teaming up with the Rees Foundation to put on lots of activities, including drumming and decorating hot chocolate. We’ll also be doing a walk round the park and messy play – so, feel free to bring your children along.

 

Step Forward Employability Skills

📅 Wednesday 27 October

🕔 1-4pm

📍 Change Academy, Newton Abbot

 

Come and have a cuppa and a chat with the Step Forward team, and explore how they could support you with your employment, education and training aspirations.

 

Picnic in the Park

📅 Thursday 28 October

🕔 11.30-2pm

📍 Torre Abbey Park, Torquay

Come and join Avocados Advocacy for a picnic in the park! We’ll play some rounders if the weather is good. There will be some snacks too, but feel free bring your own food as well. And feel free to bring a friend along as well. This event is open to under 16s as well.


Mid and East

Pizza Party

📅 Friday 29 October

🕔 1.30pm

📍 Pizza Hut, Exe Bridge, Exeter

We’ve said it once, and we’ll say it twice: free pizza is the best way to celebrate! So, come and join us for a pizza party!


North

Care Leaver Cafe Drop In

📅 Monday 25 October

🕔 Afternoon

📍 Belle’s Place, Ilfracombe

In North, we’re starting the week with an afternoon session in Ilfracombe. Drop in to Belle’s for a free hot drink, a snack and chat.

 

Roller Disco

📅 Wednesday 27 October

🕔 7-10pm

📍 Barnstaple

 

You better get your skates on if you want to join us for this event! That’s right, we’re having a roller disco!

 

Cinema

📅 Thursday 28 October

🕔 TBC

📍 Ilfracombe / Barnstaple

Due to bad weather, we’ve had to postpone our canoeing adventure on the Bude Canal until Easter. Instead, we’re going to head to the cinema to watch one of the latest box office hits. Contact your PA for more information about the cinema visit.

 


 

Other offers

Free wash and blow dry

Hair at the Academy in Exeter are offering a free wash and blow dry to Care Leavers between Monday 25 and Thursday 28 October. Spaces are limited to three young people a day, so be sure to act fast if you want a spot! Morning bookings are preferred.

The Hair at the Academy team can also have an informal discussion with you about career options within the industry, including hairdressing, barbering and beauty.

Out-of-county baking boxes

If you are currently an out-of-county Care Leaver, we’ll be sending you a fantastic Make-a-Bake box from Turning Heads. The box will contain a range of ingredients that you can create something delicious with.
